The Newcastle Magnetic Centre, at Newcastle University already has their first scanner but urgent medical research is being held back by lack of scanner time. A new scanner will allow us to press ahead with world-leading advances in Alzheimer's disease as well as in diabetes, Parkinson's disease and other chronic diseases.
Charlie is the last remaining member of the 1950's triple FA Cup winning Newcastle United team. Until last year he was speaking at meetings and active as a staunch supporter of NUFC. Alzheimer's disease has now taken its toll and his life has changed. He wants to support research into his condition to help find a cure.
Charlie signed from local football for a tenner (£10) and was at Newcastle for 14 years! What a servant and captain he was. He used to win the ball and give it to the likes of MILBURN, COWELL and CORBETT, but don't be fooled, he could play a bit and he had a snap shot that bagged a few goals. He asked the then boss Stan Seymour if he could take a part-time job to help pay the bills, the 1st in the team to dare to ask and he got his wish. They certainly don't make footballers like Charlie anymore!
